As Ying and I were on our way to a restaurant, we saw this poor dog who was left abandoned on the sidewalk in black garbage bags. He had his rear legs inside the bags so he could not move forward; while his front legs and his head were outside. We took off all the garbage bags, so he could walk again. Then, he walked a little and stopped... and he put himself in defecation posture and blood came out of his anus. Ying knew there was a veterinary clinic very close, so she went in and asked if we could bring the dog over. The veterinary told her that he knew the dog. His master could not afford the treatment, which cost 65 yuans, so he put the dog in some garbage bags, inside the cover of a box. He left a notice that read: "I am a poor student, I cannot afford the medical treatment for my dog, please help this dog". It happened at noon and we found the dog at 7:30pm, without the notice which was removed by a street sweeper. Ying really wanted to save the dog, so she offered to pay for the treatment, which consisted in three injections over the time span of two days. Before she came back to me and told me the news, the dog had vomited on the sidewalk. He looked very weak. Then, we put the dog in the bag again and we went to the clinic.

Il avait ses pattes antérieures à l’intérieur des sac, et trois trous avaient été faits dans les sacs pour permettre au chien de mettre sa tête et ses deux pattes supérieures dehors. Il ne pouvait pas marcher puisque les sacs l’empêchaient de bouger librement ses pattes. Nous l’avons donc libéré en enlevant les sacs. Le chien a fait quelques pas devant et puis il s’est mis en position fécale et du sang est sorti de son anus. Ying savait qu’il y avait une clinique vétérinaire tout près, alors elle y est allée et a demandé si nous pouvions amener le chien. Le vétérinaire a dit qu’il connaissait le chien. Son maître était venu plus tôt dans la journée, mais il ne pouvait pas se permettre le coût du traitement, qui était de 65 yuans, alors il a mis le chien dans des sacs de poubelle et sur le couvert d’une boîte. Il a laissé une note disant: "Je suis un pauvre étudiant, je ne peux pas payer le traitement médical pour mon chien. S’il vous plaît, aidez ce chien". Ça s’était passé à midi et nous avons trouvé le chien à 19h30, sans la note qui avait été enlevée par un nettoyeur de la rue. Ying voulait vraiment sauver ce chien, alors elle a offert de payer pour le traitement, qui consistait en trois injections en deux jours. Avant qu’elle ne revienne pour me raconter la nouvelle, le chien avait vomi sur le trottoir. Il était très faible. Alors, nous l’avons remis dans le sac et nous l’avons amené à la clinique.

Por favor, ayuden este perro". Esto sucedió en mediodía, y encontramos al perro a las 19h30, sin el aviso que quitó un trabajador que limpia las calles. Ying realmente queria salvar este perro y ofreció pagar el tratamiento que consistía en tres inyecciones durante dos días. Antes de volver a mí a enseñarme la noticia, el pero había vomitado en la acera. Estaba muy debil. Entonces, lo pusimos de vuelta en la bolsa y lo llevamos a la clinica.
The name of his disease, as told in Chinese by the veterinary was 细小病毒 （canine parvovirosis), an illness due to a very aggressive virus. The mortality rate in untreated puppies is 91%, while the survival rate resulting from effective therapy is 80-95%. The illness is not transmissible to humans, but only to dogs, from the feces.

After the shot, the veterinary administered the dog an oral medication. I had to give him a second dose the following morning, therefore the veterinary showed me how to secure the dog’s head in my hand and how to administer the medication directly on the gums.

For those who think that I took pointless risks by taking care of a sick dog: his illness was not transmissible to humans and Wiki was not a stray dog, as he was abandoned only a couple of hours before we discovered him. All that he touched was carefully cleaned and we washed our hands after manipulating him and took a shower in the end.
